FROM THE AIR TO THE GROUND

Autumn 2025

Alban Hills (Lazio Volcano) in the Castelli Romani Regional Park

Digital Photography

The landscape is the result of a large active yet dormant stratovolcano, with craters housing lakes (Albano and Nemi). The terrain is characterized by tuff and pyroclastic deposits.

The area, protected by the Castelli Romani Regional Park, is home to lush vegetation, with broadleaf forests, chestnut trees, and Mediterranean scrub.

When I entered, the forest was magnificent and smelled wild and humid.

To access I passed through a passage made of blackberry brambles and trees with red leaves, their beauty was evident. The microclimate changes as soon as we enter the forest, which welcomes us with sounds and scents that instantly brought a surprised relaxation.

From the sky to the ground, particles of light spread around and it seemed unreal.

Some of them were moving from the bottom to the top, defying gravity

and giving to the scene a magical atmosphere.

Polypodium glycyrrhiza

It grows wild in woodlands, preferring moist, shady environments.

It’s common to see it clinging to tree trunks (as in this case) or in rock crevices.

The colors were so vivid and green surrounded me.

The light passing through the foliage created projections on the leaves below,

and it looked like tiny dots of light were dancing, chasing each other.

I didn’t use flash or any other artificial lighting to take these photos, but nevertheless,

some of them look staged, as if we were on a set prepared by a D.O.P.
